September 2024. A new university year begins, this time on CentraleSupélec’s campus in Metz. I had the opportunity to choose my very early-stage MIDI controller idea as my main project for the year (Huge thanks to my tutor, Jean Maufoy!). I’ve been coached by Antoine Krys from the Peel, (a local structure that helps students mature their business projects). Through several methods, I began to develop a concrete vision, with precise goals, targets, and objectives.
In the meantime, I received responses from a few composers to a questionnaire I designed about MIDI controllers. Following the hints from this little survey, I leveled up my expectations for my controller’s features, trying to imagine the most ergonomic and balanced design to satisfy the needs of most composers working with orchestral virtual instruments.
Look at that nice prototype!

Indeed, Mario (mechanician from La Fabrique) advised me to try making mock-ups using cardboard instead of just 3D modeling without being able to hold something in my hands (an excellent tip!).
My Christmas present this year was this messy version, which confirmed the reliability of my design, at least in terms of electronics and programming.
I was ready to design my own custom microcontroller board and try making some RGB LED buttons. But wait till you hear about the real turning point of this adventure… See you next week!
