September 2023. Long story short: as an engineering student, I spent to much time playing guitar and composing instead of studying maths. Therefore, I had to repeat the second part of my junior year.
Instead of doing « nothing » during the first semester, I started an internship at La Fabrique, a prototyping laboratory. Learning electronic and PCB design as well as 3D modelling opened up a new field of possibilities for me : building my own MIDI controller to use more efficiently my orchestral librairies (indeed, maths still weren’t my top priority).
I crafted my own Christmas present with love as you can see:

The story could have ended here: something like « the young composer lived happy, passed his maths exams, and produced a lot of epic tracks thanks to his custom controller ». This is very unlikely, especially the maths part!
This MVP (Minimum Viable Product) was great, but I identified some points for improvement based on usage (not to mention prototyping such a device was quiet fun and rewarding).
You get it, my nerdiness (valid word, I checked!) pushed me to try to work on a second version…
See you next week!
